I painted this after my first sighting of bison in Yellowstone National Park. It felt like an awakening in my soul, a primal memory back to the great creatures that once ran free and wild throughout this country. I watched dust shake off the bison’s back, like smoke rising to meet the heavens. This feeling will stay with me forever, like gentle medicine awakening memories of long ago.
